The Face In The Mirror At 7 A.M.

Puffy eyes that take until lunch to open up. Rings that feel snug. A face that looks heavier than it did last night, even after a full night's sleep. And an energy level that's already low before the coffee kicks in.

Women describe this to me all the time in my practice. Most of them are doing the sensible things. They drink their water. They try to eat well. And the mornings still start the same way.

Here's what I tell them: morning puffiness and that slow, heavy start rarely come from one thing. They usually come from several everyday things stacking up at once.

What's Usually Behind A Puffy Morning

Lying flat for hours. When you're upright, gravity helps move fluid down and out. Overnight, fluid settles more evenly, including in your face. That's why puffiness often eases by midday.

Last night's dinner. Sodium holds onto water. A salty meal, takeout, or a glass of wine in the evening can show up in the mirror the next morning.

Short or broken sleep. Research on sleep-deprived adults has found it shows up in the face, including swollen-looking eyes.

Mineral balance. Potassium helps your body let go of extra sodium. And most American adults don't get enough potassium from their diet.

Hormonal shifts. In your 40s and 50s, changing estrogen and progesterone levels can make fluid retention and bloating more common.

Notice that none of these is a skin problem. Most of them happen inside the body.

Why Eye Creams And Jade Rollers Wear Off By Lunch

Eye creams, jade rollers, frozen spoons. Most women I see have tried at least one. Cold and gentle massage can move fluid out of the skin around your eyes for a while, so they can help.

But they work on the outside, and the things driving morning puffiness happen on the inside. That's why the effect fades and the puffiness is back the next morning.

Why "Just Drink More Water" Only Covers Part Of It

Water matters. You go seven or eight hours overnight without a sip, and even mild dehydration has been linked in studies of women to fatigue, lower mood and trouble concentrating. That's a big part of the sluggish feeling.

But plain water replaces fluid only. The minerals that help your body manage that fluid, sodium, potassium and magnesium, have to come from somewhere else. And as we get older, the sense of thirst becomes less sharp, so many women start the day lower on fluids than they realize.

Here's the part that surprises most women. When they feel puffy, many cut back on water. That can work against you. When you're low on fluids, your body releases a hormone that tells your kidneys to hold on to water. Staying steadily hydrated, with minerals, helps keep that balance steady.

Where Your Liver Fits In

Your liver works the night shift. While you sleep, it releases stored energy to keep your blood sugar steady. It processes the nutrients from yesterday's meals, and it makes the bile you need to digest fat.

It's one of the hardest-working organs you have, and it handles a lot of what you eat and drink every day. When people feel heavy, bloated and slow, the liver rarely gets a thought. It deserves one.

Your Body Already Cleans House. It Needs Daily Support.

You've probably seen products promising a detox or a deep clean. Here's the good news: your liver and kidneys already clear waste around the clock, every day, on their own.

What helps them most is consistent daily support. And the easiest place to start is the first glass you drink in the morning.

Three Morning Jobs I Recommend To My Patients

A woman at a kitchen table counts almonds, with a food scale and journal nearby.

1. Rehydrate after the overnight gap. Seven or eight hours without water is a long stretch. Your first drink of the day should bring minerals along with the fluid.

2. Rebalance your minerals. Sodium, potassium and magnesium together help your body manage fluid. Potassium is the one most women fall short on, and it helps your body let go of extra sodium.

3. Support your liver. Taurine, an amino acid your cells use to hold onto water, is also one of the building blocks your liver uses to make bile. Milk thistle, dandelion root and schisandra berry have long histories of use in supporting healthy liver function and digestion.

LTV First, Coffee Second

After seven or eight hours without water, most of us reach straight for coffee. I love my coffee too. I just ask patients to make one small change: drink a glass that brings fluid and minerals back first, then have the coffee.

It fits into a routine you already have.

Why We Formulated LTV

Dr. Joshua Levitt and I wanted one simple morning habit that covered all three jobs, with zero sugar. So we formulated LTV.

What To Actually Expect, And When

LTV is a morning habit. Here is what many women tell us they notice with consistent use.

Weeks 1–2:

Hydration is usually the first thing people feel. Many describe feeling hydrated for longer and needing less plain water to get there.

Weeks 3–4:

Steadier energy through the day is a common report, along with feeling less bloated and lighter after meals.

Months 2–3:

This is when I ask patients to reassess. By now LTV is part of the morning routine, and that consistency is what supports the liver over time.

LTV works alongside the other things that shape your mornings: sleep, an earlier or lighter dinner, and keeping evening salt and wine in check. None of this happens unless you drink it every day.

A Few Honest Notes Before You Order

When puffiness needs a doctor.

Morning puffiness that eases by midday is common. Puffiness that lasts all day, keeps getting worse, or comes with swelling in your ankles or legs is worth a conversation with your doctor.

About your health.

LTV contains sodium and potassium. If you follow a sodium-restricted diet, have kidney concerns, or take blood pressure, heart or water-pill medication, talk to your doctor before starting. The same goes if you take any prescription medication.

About allergies.

Milk thistle and dandelion belong to the daisy family. If you're allergic to ragweed or daisies, check with your doctor first.

About taste.

Zero sugar, mixes in about 10 seconds, and comes in Citrus, Berry and Tropical.
